Mzuzu is the largest city in northern Malawi and the natural base for anything happening above Kasungu. It serves the tea and coffee estates of Viphya, the timber industry, Mzuzu University and a steady flow of NGO and mission work across the north.

Local bookings cover the city itself, Mzuzu Airport, Mzuzu Central Hospital and the university campus. The short run down the escarpment to Nkhata Bay — about 50 kilometres and an hour of switchbacks — is one of our most requested trips.

Long-distance work from Mzuzu is substantial. Lilongwe is five to six hours south on the M1 through the Viphya plantations; Blantyre is a full day. Both are considerably more comfortable in a private vehicle with planned stops than on any alternative.
